Woolwich Works, Greenwich, London

Woolwich Works, formerly Woolwich Creative District, is a vibrant cultural destination in Southeast London that opened in September 2021. Set within the historic Royal Arsenal, the project involved the restoration and adaptive reuse of five Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings; the Cartridge Factory, The Laboratory, The Carriageworks, The Academy, and The Fireworks Factory, turning former industrial infrastructure into a thriving creative quarter. As conservation architects for Bennetts Associates, working on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Consarc delivered detailed condition surveys, conservation statements, heritage impact assessments, and tender documentation to support the transformation. Our work guided the careful integration of contemporary interventions, including improved circulation and new foyer spaces, within the historic fabric, creating venues for performance, rehearsal, dining, events, and offices.

The complex now features a 1,200-seat auditorium in The Fireworks Factory, a sheltered courtyard for 600, rehearsal and studio spaces, a café-bar, and flexible community event areas. It houses leading artistic companies, hosts public programmes, and is available as a hire venue for a variety of events. Widely recognised, Woolwich Works has won multiple design awards and continues to play a central role in the regeneration of the Royal Arsenal and Woolwich town centre.
