The Dixon Hotel, London

Just 200 metres from Tower Bridge, The Dixon Hotel is a conversion of the Grade II listed Tower Bridge Magistrates’ Court and Police Station, built in 1904. Delivered as a design and build project, it combines the sensitive restoration of the original structure with a carefully integrated new extension, creating a 193-bedroom, four-star plus boutique hotel under Marriott’s Autograph Collection. The building’s clinker concrete floor slabs required enhanced fire protection and specialist conservation techniques to retain its distinctive character. Inside, the hotel offers 14 suites, a destination restaurant and bar, and a range of conference facilities. The original courtroom now serves as a dramatic bar, with the judge’s bench and oak panelling preserved, while two restored prison cells form part of the restaurant design. The courthouse lobby, with its marble floors, oak panelling, staircase, and iron gate, was meticulously restored to showcase its Edwardian grandeur.

At the rear of the site, the former cell yard was redeveloped to accommodate the Provisioners restaurant and a six-storey extension with additional guestrooms. The project achieved a BREEAM ‘Good’ rating while maintaining the architectural integrity of this early 20th-century landmark. Positioned between Tooley Street and Queen Elizabeth Street, The Dixon is a distinctive blend of heritage, craftsmanship, and modern hospitality.
