Adult Day Centre, Bangor

The new Adult Day Centre in Bangor replaces the former Bayview House, providing a modern and welcoming environment for older adults, people with physical disabilities, and those experiencing mental health challenges. The design combines single- and double-storey elements, featuring a steel frame supporting a pitched roof, standing-seam deck, and areas of timber flat roofing planted with sedum, offering environmental benefits. The external walls use a mix of cavity construction and ‘Stow’ render, delivering both durability and visual interest.

Extensive site investigations allowed the team to minimise excavation, using on-site vibro-compaction to create a robust ground-bearing slab without trench-fill concrete. Drainage was carefully planned to meet local requirements, with separate foul and storm systems managing runoff from the building, car park, and landscaped areas. Stormwater attenuation measures were also incorporated to address known flooding risks in parts of Bangor. The resulting facility is safe, functional, and sustainable, meeting current community needs while providing flexibility for the future.
