Westport Estate

Westport Estate in County Mayo, one of Ireland’s most important heritage sites, is undergoing a major restoration and enhancement project due for completion in 2027. Consarc is acting as Conservation Architect for Westport House, the Coach House and the surrounding Wild Realms gardens, working closely with Taylor McCarney Architects. The scheme focuses on conserving historic fabric while improving accessibility and visitor facilities, creating a fresh interpretive experience across the estate.

The Coach House is being carefully repaired and adapted to house a café, retail space, administration and the immersive Grace O’Malley Experience, with non-historic additions removed and sensitive new extensions added. The Wild Realms project covers 70 acres of gardens, walled enclosures and natural habitats, restoring formal Italianate gardens and original structures, while introducing new pedestrian routes and striking visitor features such as an elevated walkway and storytelling structure. This €20.2 million programme brings together heritage conservation with innovative visitor design, securing Westport Estate’s future as a vibrant cultural and leisure destination.
