Divis Visitor Hub, Belfast

Located at Divis and Black Mountain, this project centres on a cluster of vernacular buildings set within the dramatic upland landscape managed by the National Trust. The scheme forms part of a wider redevelopment of the visitor hub, creating an inviting gateway for the extensive walking routes across Divis and Black Mountain. Consarc was first commissioned in 2019 to undertake a comprehensive Condition Survey of the existing buildings. In 2023, the practice was appointed to join the design team, led by Paul Hogarth Company (Landscape Architects), to develop the proposals and carry the project through to construction.

The works comprised the sensitive refurbishment of three existing buildings, Divis Lodge, The Long Barn and The Cow Shed, alongside the addition of a new Amenity Building. While not formally listed, the structures possess significant heritage value and are recognised as important vernacular buildings. The project carefully balances conservation principles with contemporary interventions, ensuring the long-term sustainability and continued public enjoyment of this unique site.
