Riddel's Warehouse, Belfast
In 2022, Consarc won the competition to lead the restoration and adaptive reuse of Riddel’s Warehouse, a Grade B+ listed Victorian structure built in 1867. Despite decades of disuse, the building remains one of Belfast’s most intact examples of industrial heritage, retaining a high level of original detail. The project begins with a temporary use phase, to bring life back into the building and re-establish its presence in the city centre. This early activation will allow ideas for the wider redevelopment to be explored and refined while keeping the space open, safe and in use.
Consarc’s approach combines heritage conservation with the creation of ambitious new facilities. A contemporary extension will provide a flexible performance space, designed to sit alongside co-working and cultural areas intended for theatre, music, exhibitions and community events. As lead conservation architect, Consarc is tasked with preserving the building’s historic fabric while incorporating modern access, services and improved environmental performance. Due for completion in 2028, the project aims to secure a sustainable future for Riddel’s Warehouse and return it to active use as a cultural and social asset for Belfast.
