The Marcus Hotel, Portrush
At Consarc Design Group, we are proud to have played a role in the design and delivery of The Marcus, a new landmark on Portrush’s historic Main Street. Our ambition was to create a contemporary building that sits comfortably within its coastal context, reflecting the town’s heritage, dynamic streetscape, and connection to the Atlantic. The architectural language responds to the rhythm and materials of Main Street, with a crafted façade that balances modernity and tradition. Generous glazed openings bring light and activity to the street, while upper floors offer calm, sea-facing guest rooms. Inside, The Marcus, Northern Ireland’s first Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel, continues this narrative with interiors inspired by Portrush’s rich coastal character. A playful storytelling theme centred on "Marcus," an imaginative adventurer, runs through the design, creating a unique and memorable identity.
Original elements such as mosaics and decorative façades were restored, while contemporary insertions introduce texture, light, and comfort. The result is a layered, characterful environment where old and new meet seamlessly. The Marcus also plays a wider civic role. As Portrush prepares to host The Open in 2025, the hotel signals confidence in the town’s future, attracting international visitors, supporting local businesses, and contributing to a vibrant and inclusive Main Street. More than just a hotel, it strengthens the town’s identity and celebrates the enduring spirit of Irish hospitality.
