Gobbins Visitor Centre & Coastal Path, Islandmagee

Consarc designed a new landmark Visitor Centre at Islandmagee, County Antrim, for Larne Borough Council. Funded by the Special EU Programmes Body, the project forms part of a wider initiative to establish the Gobbins Cliffs as a flagship coastal attraction and a key anchor on the proposed Northern Coastal Route. The centre serves both visitors to the Gobbins cliff path and the local community, combining a modern community hall and meeting rooms with purpose-built tourist facilities, including a reception and shop, interpretive exhibition, visitor briefing area, café, and staff accommodation. Shared facilities, such as toilets, storage and plant rooms, reduce duplication and operational costs.

Situated on a 1.01-hectare site, the two-storey building provides approximately 1,140 m² of space. The development also includes parking for cars and coaches, electric charging points, and landscaped outdoor areas. The design supports managed access to the restored cliff path while creating a year-round community hub. By integrating heritage interpretation with contemporary amenities, the Gobbins Visitor Centre enhances the visitor experience and provides a sustainable base for tourism, education, and local activities along this dramatic stretch of the Antrim coast.
