Onyx is a landmark student accommodation development in Birmingham city centre, completed in September 2020. The scheme provides 1,025 bedrooms on a prominent site close to Aston University and Birmingham City University. The building has a distinctive C-shaped form, with two angular towers rising to 13 and 24 storeys, finished in smooth gloss black. These are linked by a central nine-storey block in traditional matt brick, featuring recessed window reveals and textured detailing.

Accommodation includes cluster flats for 5 to 7 residents sharing a kitchen, and individual studios for those who prefer more privacy. Studios are spread throughout the building to encourage interaction between students living in different arrangements. Residents have access to extensive communal facilities, including a gym, landscaped roof terraces, a Sky Lounge and Garden on the 24th floor, and a private courtyard with a student amphitheatre. The design balances social spaces with quiet study areas, while offering panoramic views across the city.
